Hello, today we will talk a little about who dental implants are applied to and who they are not applied to.
Dental implants can be applied to people who have completed jaw and facial development, when there is enough bone where the implant will be placed, to people with good oral hygiene and to people who have no chronic condition that would prevent the operation.
So in which situations do we not recommend dental implants, or want to postpone them to a later time?
Uncontrolled Diabetes: When diabetes is not under control, we postpone implant placement.
Cancer Treatments: If the person is receiving active cancer treatment, or has received radiotherapy or chemotherapy very recently, in such cases we recommend postponement and getting their doctor's opinion.
Severe Bone Loss: In the presence of severe bone loss, we recommend tests that measure bone density to the patient and of course in this case too we consult their doctor. Depending on the degree of bone loss and on whether their doctor gives permission, we plan implant treatment again.
Immune System Problems: In patients with immune deficiency, that is, patients who have recently had an organ transplant or who use drugs that suppress the immune system, we review the treatment planning again.
Blood Diseases: Of course we also need to re-plan treatment in patients who have clotting problems.
Growth and Development Not Completed: Finally, we evaluate the situation in patients whose growth and development are not complete. In general there are publications in the literature that accept the age of 16; however, we can plan implant treatment at age 18 and after.
