A dental filling closes the cavity left in a tooth after decay has been removed. The fee depends both on the material and on how many surfaces of the tooth the filling covers. A "one-surface" filling means a small cavity on the biting surface, while a "two-" or "three-surface" filling means a larger cavity that also extends to the sides of the tooth. Below are the filling items in the Turkish Dental Association (TDB) 2026 fee tariff.

A tooth-coloured composite filling is 3,375.00 TL for one surface, 4,235.00 TL for two surfaces and 5,300.00 TL for three surfaces (including VAT). A silver-coloured amalgam filling is 2,845.00 TL for one surface, and a glass ionomer filling 2,675.00 TL.
Inlays and Onlays
If the cavity or fracture is very large, the filling may be made in a laboratory from an impression rather than directly in the mouth. These are called inlays (fitting inside the tooth) and onlays (also covering the cusps):

- Removing an old filling: If a broken old filling, or one with decay underneath, is replaced, removal is 1,480.00 TL.
- Pulp capping: If the decay is very close to the nerve, a protective material is placed over it; 440.00 TL (filling excluded).
- X-rays: Decay between teeth is not always visible; a bite-wing X-ray is 830.00 TL.
What Affects the Cost?
- The size of the cavity and how many surfaces the filling covers
- The material (composite, amalgam, glass ionomer, ceramic inlay)
- How close the decay is to the nerve; if it has reached the nerve, root canal treatment may be needed instead
- Whether an old filling has to be removed
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a white filling cost more than amalgam?
A composite filling is placed in layers, hardened with light and bonded to the tooth, which takes more time and care. The tariff also lists higher fees for composite than for amalgam.
Can one tooth be charged for several fillings?
The tariff sets the filling fee by the number of surfaces it covers. A large cavity in one tooth is treated as a single two- or three-surface filling.
When is an inlay or a crown needed instead of a filling?
If much of the tooth has been lost, a direct filling may not last long. In that case the dentist may recommend an inlay, onlay or crown.
