Clear Aligner Treatment

A comfortable and discreet orthodontic option that straightens teeth step by step with removable clear aligners instead of braces.

What Is Clear Aligner Treatment?

Clear aligner treatment is an orthodontic method in which crowded or gapped teeth are aligned step by step with thin, transparent trays that fit closely over the teeth. Each aligner is planned to move the teeth by a very small amount and is replaced with the next one about every two weeks. Because the aligners are taken out for eating and brushing, oral hygiene is easier than with braces.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • People with mild to moderate crowding
  • People with gaps between their teeth
  • Adults who dislike the look of braces
  • People who have had orthodontic treatment before and whose teeth have shifted again

For severe jaw discrepancies, some complex tooth movements, and people who will not wear the aligners for enough hours a day, braces may be more suitable. This is decided after an oral examination, X-rays and assessment.

How Does Treatment Progress?

1. Examination and records: The teeth, gums and jaw structure are assessed, and X-rays and impressions or an intraoral scan are taken. Decay and gum health are addressed before treatment.

2. Planning: A digital plan of the tooth movements is prepared and the target result and estimated duration are shared with you.

3. Wearing the aligners: Aligners are worn about 20-22 hours a day and taken out only for eating, brushing and drinks other than water. Progress is monitored with regular check-ups before moving to the next stage.

4. Retention: After treatment, a retainer is used so that the teeth do not shift again. This stage is very important for a lasting result.

Clear Aligners or Braces?

Clear aligners are less noticeable and removable, but success depends largely on patient compliance. With braces the appliance is fixed and works the same way for every patient. The two are not rivals but answers to different needs; the examination decides which suits you. See our general orthodontics page for more.

Treatment Time

Duration ranges from a few months to two years depending on the degree of crowding. The exact time is clarified at the examination and after planning; wearing the aligners consistently directly affects it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is clear aligner treatment painful?
With each new aligner you may feel mild pressure and sensitivity for the first days. This is normal and usually passes within a few days.
Do I have to wear the aligners all day?
To be effective they need to be worn about 20-22 hours a day. If they are not worn long enough, treatment takes longer or the goal may not be reached.
Are clear aligners suitable for everyone?
No. Depending on the degree of crowding and patient compliance, braces may be more suitable. The decision is made after the examination.
Do the teeth go back after treatment?
If a retainer is not used, the teeth can drift back. That is why a retainer is recommended after treatment.
