Orthodontics

We correct dental and jaw irregularities to give you a flawless smile. Crooked teeth, bite problems and jaw pain can be treated with orthodontics. Clear aligners made from digital impressions keep patients free of aesthetic worries throughout treatment.

Orthodontic Treatment: The Path to a Healthy, Functional and Attractive Smile

Crowded teeth, gaps or a mismatch between the upper and lower jaw are often seen as purely aesthetic concerns, but they are actually functional problems that deeply affect oral and dental health. Orthodontics, the specialty that diagnoses and treats these problems, moves the teeth into their ideal positions, which gives you a flawless smile and also improves basic functions such as chewing and speaking.

Why Is Orthodontic Treatment Important? Is It Only Aesthetic?

Crooked teeth are much harder to clean than well-aligned ones. Plaque that builds up in areas the toothbrush cannot reach paves the way for cavities and gum disease over time. In addition, a bite that does not close properly (malocclusion) puts excessive load on the chewing muscles and the jaw joint (TMJ), which can lead to head and neck pain. For this reason, braces and aligner treatments are far more than a cosmetic touch; they are a protective and functional investment in your health.

Orthodontic Treatment Methods Used Today

Thanks to advancing technology, much more comfortable treatment options can be offered without affecting patients' social lives. The most common methods are:

  • Metal Brackets (Traditional Braces): Stainless steel brackets bonded to the outer surfaces of the teeth. They are very durable and transmit force very well, so they deliver fast and precise results even in the most complex cases.
  • Porcelain / Clear Brackets: They work on the same principle as metal brackets, but because they are made from tooth-colored porcelain or sapphire materials, they are much less noticeable. Adult patients with aesthetic concerns often prefer them.
  • Clear Aligner Treatment (Wireless Orthodontics): One of the most popular orthodontic approaches today. Custom-made, transparent, removable aligners (such as Invisalign) are produced from digital impressions taken from the patient. Their biggest advantages are that they are almost invisible from the outside and can be removed while eating.

How Does the Orthodontic Treatment Process Work?

Meticulous planning lies behind every successful orthodontic treatment. In general terms, the process consists of the following stages:

1. Clinical Examination and Digital Analysis: First, the patient's mouth is examined and their panoramic and cephalometric X-rays are reviewed. Instead of traditional impression methods, intraoral scanners are generally used to create a 3D digital model of the teeth. At this stage, the treatment duration and the method to be used are determined.

2. Starting Treatment (Application): Depending on the chosen method, brackets are bonded to the teeth and wires are placed, or the first set of custom-made clear aligners is delivered. No pain is felt during the procedure.

3. Monthly Routine Check-Ups: To make sure the teeth move in the planned direction, check-up sessions are held at intervals of about 4 to 6 weeks. In these sessions the wires may be changed, the force settings renewed, or you may switch to new clear aligners.

4. Retention Phase: When the teeth reach their ideal positions, active treatment ends and the braces are removed. To prevent the teeth from drifting back to their former crooked positions, a thin retainer wire is bonded to the back surfaces of the teeth or clear retainers are provided. This phase is critical for keeping the result for life.

Is There an Age Limit for Orthodontic Treatment?

Contrary to popular belief, there is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. Braces or clear aligner treatment can be applied safely to adults of any age whose teeth and gums are healthy. Today, the vast majority of orthodontic patients are adults.
